The technology

What is a “Reset”? And why does it work in a single day?

Fogging kills mold and more.

A Clean Air Doctor reset is a whole-home dry-fogging treatment. An ultra-fine, non-toxic vapour is released into every room of your home. It drifts on air currents into the spaces you can’t reach with a cloth, rag, or spray — inside cupboards, behind beds, under fridges, into soft furnishings, fabrics, and air ducts. The vapour contacts mould, bacteria, viruses, biofilm, and VOC molecules, breaks them down at a molecular level, and then harmlessly dissipates. For the standard protocol, your home is ready to live in again by the time we close the front door behind us. For our sensitive-occupant protocol, we recommend a short move-out window of typically 24–48 hours — we will confirm the exact timing during your consult.

How the dry-fog mechanism works

  1. 1
    Atomised into 5-micron particles

A thermal fogger heats our EPA-equivalent compound into a dry vapour roughly 1/20th the width of a human hair. It stays suspended in the air for hours — long enough to reach every corner.

  2. 2
    Penetrates the unreachable

The fog drifts behind appliances, inside ducting, under beds, into fabric weave, along skirting boards, and across ceiling cavities. Areas a wipe or spray simply cannot touch.

  3. 3
    Oxidises contaminants at molecular level

The active agent ruptures cell walls of mould, bacteria, viruses and yeast, and breaks VOC molecules into harmless trace elements. Biofilm is stripped from surfaces, not just killed on top.

  4. 4
Dissipates. No residue. No toxic off-gassing.

Within hours, the active agent breaks down to water and oxygen. There is nothing to wipe off, nothing to wash out, and no chemical residue left behind for your family to breathe.

The promise

You sleep in your own bed tonight.

No waiting days for the smell to fade. No throwing out food from the fridge. The entire reset — from the moment we arrive to the moment your front door closes behind us — is completed in a single day. Re-entry timing depends on which protocol your home calls for, and we confirm it in writing before we start.

Standard re-entry: same day, typically 2–4 hours after fogging ends
No need to throw out food from the fridge
No need to throw out furniture, mattresses, or soft furnishings

Why use Clean Air Doctor

SA’s most advanced indoor air team — built by the specialist SA doctors already refer to.

Most operators sell a treatment and leave. We do something different. We’re the only South African team that owns the laboratory, imports the chemistry, and tests the air after the fog — and we’re part of the Mold Detection SA team where 20+ SA doctors already refer their most sensitive patients to.

Field authority

The longest-practising mould specialist in South Africa.

While newer companies were learning how to spell “mould remediation”, we were already on the third generation of protocols. Clean Air Doctor is the natural evolution of Mold Terminators, Mold Detection SA and the Stop Mold Products manufacturing line — the same specialist, the same decade-plus of fieldwork, narrowed to one focus: measurable indoor air quality.

20+ SA doctors refer to us

Integrative and functional medicine practitioners across South Africa route their mould-illness patients to Clean Air Doctor because we speak their language, follow their protocols, and document the result.

Stellenbosch University collaborator

We collaborate with Stellenbosch University on research into indoor environmental triggers of chronic inflammatory illness. This is academic-grade indoor air science, not a side business.

Own laboratory & manufacturer

We own the lab that counts the air samples, and we manufacture the Stop Mold Products line. That means no third-party shortcuts between your sample and the result, or between the chemistry and your home.

Medical & environmental integration

We built a proprietary app that reads a patient’s medical report alongside our environmental assessment, and produces an indicative cross-reference for their doctor. Almost no one in the world does this.

The Clean Air Doctor promise

We don’t leave you blind.

Anyone can fog a room. Anyone can hand you a certificate and disappear. We do the opposite. After every reset we run a post-fog air sample — drawn from your actual rooms, onto agar plates, counted in our own lab. You receive the numbers. You see the reduction in your own home, not a marketing claim. If the result isn’t where it should be, we come back and re-treat. No arguments, no extra cost, no fine print.

What you walk away with
  • Pre-fog & post-fog air sample report
  • Room-by-room CFU comparison
  • Written treatment record
  • Re-treatment guarantee if targets missed
  • Next-cycle recommendation for your home
SA medical first — 2015/2016

We brought mould illness to the integrative medicine board.

In 2015/2016, we were the team that introduced the concept of environmental mould illness to the Integrative Medicine Board of South Africa. A decade later, those referral pathways are still in use, and the medical community is now treating mould-driven illness as a recognised factor in chronic inflammatory cases — because we did the early work to make it legible to doctors.

This is why 20+ SA practitioners refer their most complex patients to us. We don’t just treat the home. We help the doctor understand what they’re treating.

What we reset

Four things your air can carry that you can’t see.

An indoor air quality reset isn’t a deep clean and it isn’t pest control. It’s a targeted biological reset of the four categories of contaminant that quietly build up inside every occupied space — and quietly drive the symptoms you can’t explain.

In your home

A single technician. A single day. Your entire home reset.

Mould & spores

Active colonies and the invisible airborne spores that trigger allergic reactions, sinus issues and asthma — including the spores settled in cavities, ducts and soft furnishings.

Bacteria

Surface and airborne bacteria that thrive in bathrooms, kitchens, HVAC systems and any space with humidity cycling. Particularly relevant for chronic sinusitis or recurring infections.

Viruses

Enveloped respiratory viruses that linger on high-touch surfaces and recirculate through ductwork. The dry fog reaches where sprays and wipes physically can’t.

Yeast & fungi

Yeast colonies and other fungal species that colonise damp cabinetry, bathrooms and HVAC pans. Often missed in routine cleaning but a known trigger for candida-sensitive individuals.

How it works

From first call to a reset home in under a week.

No demolition. No vacating for weeks. No "leave the windows open for a month" advice. One protocol, one visit, one verified reset.

1

Free phone consult

A 15-minute call with a real specialist. We listen, we ask the right questions, and we tell you honestly whether a reset is the right next step.

2

On-site assessment

We measure the space, identify air-circulation patterns, check moisture readings and confirm the protocol that fits. You receive a fixed quote on the spot.

3

Pre-reset prep

We send a simple checklist: open certain cupboards, clear specific surfaces, secure pet areas. Most homes need less than 30 minutes of prep.

4

The dry-fog reset

Two compounds fogged in sequence. InstaPure neutralises active mould, bacteria, viruses and yeast. EverPure (optional) bonds an antimicrobial layer to surfaces.

5

Re-entry & air-out

Standard homes can be back the same evening. Sensitive-occupant protocols use a coordinated 24–48 hour move-out window.

6

Follow-up & next-reset plan

We check in at 30, 90, and 180 days. For health-conscious households we recommend a scheduled annual reset to keep biological load at baseline.

The technology

A dry fog. Not a spray, not a gas, not a pest-control treatment.

The particles we release are 5 to 50 microns across — about the size of a single mould spore. At that size they behave like a gas, fill every cubic foot of your space, and reach every surface a cloth physically can’t.

Particles that behave like a gas

At 5–50 microns the fog is too fine to fall. It floats through the room, into wall cavities, through HVAC ductwork, and into the air column itself.

Breaks down to water & oxygen

The active compound is a hydrogen peroxide & peracetic acid solution. Within 48 hours it breaks down into water, oxygen and a trace of acetic acid. No residue.

We are not a pest control company

Pest control targets insects and rodents. We target the biological load in the air and on surfaces — a completely different discipline with different compounds.

For sensitive homes

Built for the people who can’t afford a single added reaction.

We built Clean Air Doctor because we kept meeting the same people. Households that had already done everything right — the deep clean, the dehumidifier, the air purifier, the doctor visits — and were still reacting.

Households we regularly work with

  • CIRS & mould illness recovery
  • MCAS & histamine intolerance
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Post-chemo & post-transplant
  • Severe asthma & allergies
  • Families with infants & elderly

Optional EverPure step. We can complete the reset without the long-term antimicrobial coating for households that prefer zero added chemical burden on surfaces.

Extended re-entry window. For sensitive-occupant households we recommend an extended re-entry period of typically 24–48 hours while the compound fully breaks down. We confirm the exact window with you in writing before we start.

No off-gassing. The EverPure coating bonds to the surface rather than sitting free. It is non-leaching and does not release vapour into the air.

Dry fogging vs conventional chemical fogging & ozone

Not every "fog" is the same technology.

"Fogging" gets used to describe three very different treatments you can be offered in South Africa — dry fogging, conventional wet chemical fogging, and ozone treatment. They use different chemistries, different equipment, and have different re-entry protocols. Here is how they actually compare.

What we do
Dry fogging

Clean Air Doctor reset

5–50 micron particles released by a dry-fog generator. Reaches the air, the wall cavities, the ductwork and every soft furnishing.

  • Reaches wall cavities — particles behave like a gas
  • EPA-equivalent chemistry — breaks down to water and oxygen
  • Re-entry same day on the standard protocol, or 24–48 hours on the sensitive-occupant protocol
  • Targets air and surfaces — mould, bacteria, viruses, yeast
  • Safe for occupied homes with proper timing
Conventional wet fogging & ozone

Other treatments you may be quoted

The two other approaches commonly sold in SA: wet chemical fogging (ULV machines that throw out coarse droplets of quat- or chlorine-based products) and ozone shock treatment (high-concentration O₃ gas). Both are real treatments with their own limits.

  • Wet fogging: coarse droplets settle on surfaces — limited reach into wall cavities and ducting
  • Ozone: lung irritant by design — the home must be fully evacuated; re-entry only after full O₃ decay
  • Re-entry windows vary: 12–24 hours for ozone, several hours for wet fogging depending on ventilation
  • Neither leaves no residue — quat films on surfaces; ozone oxidises rubber seals, fabrics and some electronics
  • Not suitable for occupied sensitive homes during treatment; full evacuation required in both cases

The simple difference

Wet chemical fogging and ozone are legitimate treatments with their own use cases — they aren't the wrong tool, they are just different tools. Dry fogging is the only one designed to reach every surface in a closed home, leave no residue, and let a sensitive household return to a reset environment within a defined window. The right answer depends on the home, the contamination, and the occupants.

When you need one

Six reasons South Africans are booking resets right now.

After water damage

A burst pipe, roof leak or flood. Once the structure is dry, the air column and cavities still carry the biological load. Reset before you move back in.

Mould you can’t see

A musty smell that won’t go away. A recurring sinus infection. A child with a persistent cough. The mould is there — just not where you can reach it.

Pre-purchase peace of mind

Just bought a new home? Get the air reset before you move in. Especially important for immunocompromised buyers or households with infants.

Post-recovery homecoming

Coming home after chemotherapy, transplant, or a chronic-illness recovery period. The home should be the safest room in their life.

Renovation handover

New bathroom, new kitchen, new extension. Construction work disturbs settled dust and biological load. Reset before you sleep in your renovated home.

Annual health reset

For households that take indoor air quality seriously. A scheduled annual reset keeps biological load at baseline and prevents slow symptom-triggering accumulation.

Common questions

The questions we get on every first call.

Is this safe for my immunocompromised family member?
Yes — and we’ve built our sensitive-occupant protocol specifically for this. The active agent is formulated to the same standard required for EPA-registered disinfectants in the US, and breaks down to water, oxygen and trace acetic acid within 48 hours. We can also skip the long-term EverPure coating entirely for households that want zero added chemical burden. We coordinate a move-out window during the breakdown period and stay in close contact before, during and after.
How is this different from a deep clean or pest control?
A deep clean targets visible surfaces with manual methods. Pest control targets insects and rodents with toxic compounds. We target the biological load in the air and on every surface a cloth physically can’t reach — wall cavities, ductwork, soft furnishings, the air column itself. We’re not a pest control company. We’re an indoor air quality service.
Do I need to leave the house?
For standard protocols, the actual fogging takes 2–4 hours and you can be back the same evening once the airing window is complete. For sensitive-occupant protocols, we recommend a 24–48 hour move-out window during the compound breakdown. We plan the timing around your schedule — most families use a weekend.
How often should we get a reset?
For health-conscious households an annual reset is the most common rhythm. For immunocompromised households, families with mould-illness recovery, or homes with known moisture history, we often recommend every 6–9 months. After your first reset we’ll suggest a schedule that fits your specific environment.
How much does a reset cost?
It depends on the size of the space, the number of rooms and the protocol required. We quote per square metre after the on-site assessment — never before. We’ll always give you the option of a standard or sensitive-occupant protocol with the price difference clearly explained. Submit your details in the form and we’ll send a quote within 24 hours.
What if we already had a mould problem remediated?
A reset is actually the recommended finishing step after professional remediation. The remediation removes the source and the contaminated material. The reset handles the residual biological load in the air column, wall cavities, ductwork and soft furnishings that hand-cleaning can’t reach. We work alongside remediation companies as the final step — and we’re often called in by them directly.

Who we are

A specialist, not a service directory.

Clean Air Doctor is a dedicated service line from the team behind Mold Terminators and Mold Detection SA. We’ve spent over a decade in occupied homes across South Africa, measuring biological load, treating contamination, and learning what actually moves the needle on the symptoms people couldn’t explain.

When the dry-fog technology matured to the point of being safe for occupied homes and sensitive occupants, we built Clean Air Doctor around it. Same team, same standards, narrower focus.
